World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the level of the item increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced by a new item of the same kind. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could make the item more expensive if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, which will come with a level 1 base and a completely different set of extra bonuses. This is a good idea, but shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Certain upgrades can boost their value and allow players to modify their equipment. If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar on its growth bar will reset to zero.
