World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain 3percent of its previous damage each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue before a component can be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the item to which it is used (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level with normal methods.

The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will appear in the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure how much it will be improved following a reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it's possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that increase or even eliminate the possibility of failure, and some upgrades that offer an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any pre-existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as possible to level 15.

You will often find in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the most effective method to upgrade your gear. When the player upgrades an item it is replaced by a new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced by the same item upgrades, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase the damage they deal and also increase their strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear that can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Each each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you go over the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can result in the item returning to its original state and the player having to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit, the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to the definitions of items. The value is calculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to the value of the base item upgrading. For example an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero quality items have lower costs per upgrade.

Premium items might have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For example, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons.
