WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and item level upgrade the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain Item level upgrade level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrader kit level will cost less. This is even if those items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for gear with a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
